INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

International activities of the Department of Social Sciences closely correspond with its specialisation in Education for Democratic Citizenship and Europeanism. Since its beginning in 1991 the department has arranged numerous bilateral contacts with foreign institutions and universities. On the basis of these contacts it develops scientific and – for the department especially important – pedagogical cooperation: student´s educational stays and study visits of the department members or cooperation in realization of research projects, cooperation in holding conferences and symposiums etc.

Quatronational symposiums

The most important foreign activity of the Department of Social Sciences is quatronational symposiums, which are held every year in autumn. The beginning of this symposium dating back to the year 1996, when the first conference of university pedagogues from Czech Republic, Poland and Germany took place in Kamien Śląski (Poland). After it in this trilateral research-pedagogical cooperation came in the University of Pécs (Hungary). The output of every symposium is conference proceedings, grand total summary of confrences from the years 1996–2001 was published in the year 2002 under the name Trinacionální symposium (Češi – Němci – Poláci). Award of a Honorary Doctorate

In November 2007 The University of Pécs (Pécsi Tudományegyetem – Universitas Quinqueecclesiensis) conferred an academic degree of Doctor honoris causa (Dr.h.c.) on prof. PhDr. František Mezihorák, CSc, the founder of the Department of Social Sciences and Emeritus Dean of Faculty of Education, Palacký University.

Cooperation with the organization STIFTUNG HAUS der Action 365

More than ten-year close cooperation (since 1998) is being realized with a non-governmental organization STIFTUNG HAUS der Action 365 in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). Every year (usually in June) the students of the Department of Social Sciences are enabled to pass two-week Summer school of German culture, social system and language.
